Article: Top 25 Useful Photoshop Shortcuts

Here’s a list I’ve compiled of the Photoshop shortcuts I use daily. This would be a good list to keep around for reference; hopefully, it should save you a bit of time, and a few headaches from trying to find options in the menus.

Document Management

  • Create a new document: Ctrl+N
  • Close current document: Ctrl+W
  • Image size: Alt+Ctrl+I
  • Canvas size: Alt+Ctrl+C

Interface

  • Toggle interface: Tab
  • Toggle interface ‘fluff’ : Shift+Tab
  • Change screen modes: F

Layers

  • New layer (with options): Ctrl+Shift+N
  • New layer (no options): Ctrl+Alt+Shift+N
  • New layer (copy): Ctrl+J
  • Merge down: Ctrl+E

Colors and Fills

  • Fill menu: Shift+F5
  • Fill with foreground color: Ctrl+Backspace
  • Fill with background color: Alt+Backspace
  • Hue and Saturation: Ctrl+U
  • Levels: Ctrl+L
  • Curves: Ctrl+M
  • Toggle quickmask mode: Q

Selection

  • Select all: Ctrl+A
  • Deselect: Ctrl+D
  • Inverse selection: Ctrl+I

Tool Shortcuts

  • Brush: B
  • Marquee: M
  • Move: V
  • Type/Text: T

Misc Tips and Shortcuts

  • Easy move: Hold down the spacebar, click to move.
  • Undo/Redo: Ctrl+Z
  • Undo only: Ctrl+Alt+Z

    You forgot one of my most favourite PhotoShop shortcuts:

    Free Transform: Ctrl+T

    ^^^This is my most used shortcut, it’s great for resizing images and graphics!

    Wow, I can’t believe I didn’t know about the Alt+Ctrl+Z thing to undo more than once!
