With a brand new design to boot
You know how it is. You started drafting out a design for fun and you end up falling in love with it so much that you just have to make it your own. This happens to me more than I’d like to admit, and there’s still a few things about this design that I don’t particularly care for, but it’ll do for now and I’ll update it as I see fit as I go forward. I’ll be tweaking the site for the next couple of days, but I opted to remove maintenance mode and re-open the floodgates. I don’t expect much traffic until the tutorials are restored, however, but do feel free to explore and let me know if you run into any bugs.
So far, I’ve managed to test the new design on Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Chrome and a few others. So far so good! The only issue is with IE6′s integration, and it should degrade semi-gracefully (i.e., no jQuery effects).
Registration has been opened as well for the first time in Steel Frog’s history. If you want, click on the little help button on the top left to register for an account and let me know how it goes.
Please note that all comments have been purged from the database for sanitization purposes. It does make the blog look bare, but it was deemed necessary to keep the database running clean this time around.

Sometimes, it might be worth doing it yourself
I work for a small company of 100 people or so and am the sole web designer, developer and general IT guy for the office. Following my recommendation, we’ve recently taken on the project of re-desiging our website and bringing the 10 year-old code up to web standards.
As the people in my office tend to keep me very busy, my superiors opted to hire a large contracting company to update the website and bring the everything up to par. I wasn’t against the idea, but I definitely would have preffered to structure and laying out the CSS, documenting everything in case I’m to be replaced later on, but time was a factor and I couldn’t deliver as fast as they needed. We had used them before, and they’ve built us awesome ASP applications that make all of our lives easier, so I was under the impression they could at least provide proper HTML.
Several months go by and we near completion and finally get a glimpse of the new site. It was like hitting me in the face with a hammer. It looked horrible.

To my horror, I discovered that the drivers included on the bundled disc were not compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7. Here’s how I managed to get the thing going.

My first day in the 'ole west
If I’ve learned anything from Final Fantasy XII, it’s that any game, no matter what the publisher and their track record might be, can take a horrible turn for the worse. Rarely do I buy games anymore and when I do, I’m often left with a rumble in the gut while I ask myself why I just pissed away 60$ on a piece of plastic when I could have leased it for nickels on the dollar. Look, when I first heard of Red Dead Redemption, I was far from being sold. Another shallow western spaghetti shooter with no soul. We’ve seen many of those before, right?
The least I could say is, so far, I’ve been proven wrong. From to moment I’ve picked up the game, my butt has not left the couch until it was forced to do so by the looming challenge of going to work the following day.
